To address the challenges of learning algebra, a movement called Early Algebra has been developed. This movement promotes the development of algebra from an early age through the generalization of patterns. However, some studies have shown the difficulties students face in achieving these generalization processes. The aim of this didactic proposal is to create a design that enables 9 and 10-year-old students to develop algebraic thinking. This proposal is based on the didactic perspective of algebra as a tool for mathematical modeling, particularly for generalizing patterns. The methodology for the development, implementation, and validation of the activities considered the design-based research approach and the Singapore Method (SM). The proposal was applied in a private school in Mexico, and the analysis of students' responses was based on the levels of early algebra. The results show that progressing through the stages of the SM (concrete, pictorial, and abstract) helps students identify the regularities in patterns and formulate their general rules, using symbolic elements and reaching level 2 of algebraization.
